Makuie village is located in the Bombali District of Sierra Leone. There are approximately 24 houses and over 400 people from the Loko and Temne tribes. The village has access to vast land suitable for farming and the rearing of animals, however, the residents live in extreme poverty without grain storage to store seeds, access to clean water, or proper sanitation facilities. Currently, the village has two open diameter wells which dry up during the dry season and a few local latrines made from sticks. The community is made up of Christians and Muslims and there is a Wesleyan church led by Pastor Kumbo Kamara.
Makuie is part of the Village Partnership program through World Hope International which focuses on holistic, sustainable programming that addresses the physical and spiritual needs of the community. Sponsorship covers school fees, a uniform, and supplies. With your support and so many promising leaders and students, the future is looking bright for Makuie!
