Enable the Children (ETC) is a community-based program in Sierra Leone that provides year-round therapy and social support services to more than 800 children with disabilities and their families to improve their quality of life. More than half of the children enrolled in ETC suffer from cerebral palsy; others include Down syndrome, autism, acquired brain injury, muscular dystrophy, orthopedic challenges, and many more.
ETC staff visit patients in their homes and teach families and caregivers how to support children with disabilities using play, developmental positioning, and feeding support. This allows families the opportunity to learn to provide at-home care and treatment to children in a manner that is sustainable in their everyday lives. As cultural beliefs lead many mothers to place blame upon themselves when a child is born with a disability, the staff works with mothers so they understand each child’s medical case and to reassure parents that they’ve done nothing wrong.
Rock the 21 is partnering with World Hope International to find sponsors for the children below with Down syndrome. Your sponsorship gift is uniquely used to provide a caseworker from ETC who will help facilitate a family plan to improve your sponsored child’s life. This plan often includes physical or occupational therapy and specialized equipment made by local carpenters and tailors. If your sponsored child is able to attend school, your sponsorship helps with the cost of school fees, supplies, and a uniform.
Sponsorship is $44/month and can be paid monthly, quarterly or annually. Find more information about Child Sponsorship including FAQs here.
